Labor Day Weekend

We had a great turnout for our Labor Day Party on Sunday. Lots of new neighbors, family, co-workers and even an old friend from high school (Matt Gould) were able to make it.

Mom and Dad came this weekend for their first visit to the new house. They brought delicious veggies from their garden and were a huge help in getting ready for the party.

On Monday, Rodney flew into the small airport at Hopedale (15 min from the house) and we went for a fly over Medway and then a trip to Columbia County airport near Albany, NY. Then we flew down the Hudson River to Rhinebeck. Flying in a personal plane like that is really exciting, but Rodney is a great pilot. It was a clear day and the view was amazing. Rod even let me take the controls on the way back from New York to Massachusetts. Of course, he took over for the landing.

Welcome

Welcome to the first edition of the West Street News. I really enjoyed reading about my favorite nephew, Owen, on his new blog http://owenks.blogspot.com/ , so I decided to share what's going at our new house with anyone who cares.

I had four days off last week and I planned to do lots of work around the house. I had contractors come to fix several problems (broken dishwasher, furnace, missing gutters and leaky roof). I worked on several projects myself (rotted and peeling exterior trim, rotted door sill, lawnmowing, rescreen patio doors, put up shades, install light fixtures, replace cracked window panes, replace window crank). I got all of them done except the last two.

Brie's brother, Shawn, graciously offerred his help this weekend. He replaced two electrical sockets and painted 3 rooms. He did an awesome job on fixing and replastering the walls and the new colors in the bathroom and library look great.

I still have a few urgent projects (basement dampness and chimney sweeping) and a few nice-to-have projects (improved power and light in workshop) but things are starting to seem manageable.

We hope to see everyone at our Labor Day BBQ on Sunday.
